Unlike Covid-19, according to health officials, there is a low risk to the American public. But they are taking multiple measures to combat growing cases.
One of the steps is to expand the group of people to get the vaccination. These vaccines boost immunity against the monkeypox virus, even before they get infected. But for those, if they were infected and given within days or a week, will help them to reduce the severity of the virus symptoms.
Right now, vaccines Available in America are:
There are two doses available for the American public, one is Jynneos and ACAM2000. Both vaccines are for smallpox, which is effective against monkeypox.
The vaccine ACAM2000 is the older version of the vaccine, it is effective, but there are greater side effects and not recommended for HIV people. On the other hand, the vaccine Jynneos is safe for vaccination, so the health official is rooted to use it as a primary weapon.
As for now, the government is deploying over 9000 doses of vaccine, and they will increase the amount of Jynneos vaccine up to 56000 doses immediately and over 2,40,000 in upcoming months.
As for now, there are limited doses of Jynneos. For this reason, the health official said they will use a four-tier distribution strategy, in which they will give priority to jurisdictions where most of the cases are located.
